The Lippizan Horses, originally bred in Austria made an appearance this week in Carteret County. They performed at the Crystal Coast Civic Center. While a notoriously small venue for them, the CCCC does provide an unparalleled opportunity for viewers to see these highly trained horses up close. If they sneezed, you got snotted on!
StallMucker and I had the opportunity to view them on their first night in town. Despite their somewhat unusual fixation on the possibility that I was taking video (I was taking stills with my digital video camera), the experience was a memorable one. They performed a Pax de deus, quadrille and some of the traditional haute ecole movements such as Levade and Capriole.
Their show featured both Lippizans (several from the Piber stud) and Andalusians, twelve horses in all. While the actual execution of the movements had to suffer from the space constraints, I don't think anyone in this area has any complaints about the grandeur of the experience. These are amazing horses whose training continues to require the utmost in submission, relaxation, impulsion and attentiveness. Our thanks goes out to White Stallion Productions for the amazing experience and for their beautifully trained horses.
